Reason for Recall:

A registered veterinary medicine substance lasalocid was accidentally incorporated into these feeds – detected during testing by the manufacturer and notified to MAF. The company is doing a voluntary recall.

Comments:

The manufacturer is Viterra, based in Auckland.

Some of the detected levels in feed are considered to be likely to lead to residues above the Maximum Residue Limits in eggs or meat from poultry fed these products.

Research indicates that levels in meat and eggs are below that which would cause adverse reactions and that consumption of affected produce would have to be over a long period of time for there to be any health impacts.

MAF recommends that eggs laid in a two-week period after hens have eaten the affected feed should not consumed by humans or on-sold.

MAF also recommends that people do not eat poultry meat if the animal was slaughtered within a week of having consumed affected feed. Wait until animals have been off the affected feed for more than a week before slaughtering any further animals for meat.
